About Turath Institute
In 2025, Turath Institute applied for CIO status. Founded by Dylan Whitney (Shaykh Ibrahim), it was established in response to a clear gap within the British Muslim community. Our children are not receiving the Islamic education they need, and our young people lack structured opportunities to pursue ʿĀlimiyyah and Iftāʾ studies.
Our Beloved ﷺ taught us that our Ummah is like one body. In the previous generations, our elders have built numerous mosques and halal meat shops. We need these to live Muslim lives, and we now take them for granted. At Turath Institute, we believe the mission of our generation is to build on this work and furnish a lively community culture of education and personal development.
Driven by a passion for education, our mission is to build an institution that will endure for centuries. Operating on a waqf-based model, Turath Institute seeks to establish a sustainable framework for Islamic education—strategically relevant as Muslims strengthen their foothold within the civil and academic life of the societies we call home.

What We Do
Awareness – We engage in daʿwah through school visits, mosque tours for students and professionals, and public outreach events, helping others encounter Islam through knowledge and experience.
Academia – We teach directly, train teachers, and foster research. We have college courses for A levels as well as GCSE, and a part-time ʿĀlimiyyah learning path, which is developing into the B.A. in Islamic Studies and B.A. in Arabic.
Advisory – We produce research and surveys that generate original data, analysis, and insight to support informed decision-making across charities, educational bodies, and public institutions.
What We Plan to Do
Academia – Launch a full-time ʿĀlimiyyah and Iftāʾ learning paths and complete accreditation process. Grow into a quality university and open postgraduate research opportunities for our ʿulamāʾ to enter and influence the direction of academia nationally and globally.
Advisory – Expand into policy research and consultancy, offering expertise to faith-based organisations, charities, and public bodies.
Advocacy – Establish a Legal Services Centre (LSC) to anchor Islamic thought in practical justice, community empowerment, and public interest advocacy.

FAQs
What is Turath Institute?
We provide accredited Islamic education. Our vision is to grow an accredited college and university with research output in order to cultivate the next generation and contribute to Islamic thought.
Is the education authentic?
Alhamdulillah, Muslims are very particular about who we take our deen from. Islam has been perfectly preserved, by the grace of Allah, through diligent transferring of Prophetic Inheritance from believer to believer, from heart to heart, until our generation. Now, it is our turn.
Is the education accredited?
First and foremost, we adhere to Islamic system of Ijazah and Isnad. Scholars are inheritors of the prophets, and the standards of academic integrity in Islam are superior to the western model. That said, we also master the western tradition and aim to award students with qualifications recognized by the West. Our college courses follow the Cambridge Assessment standards for Arabic (0544, 9680) and Islamic Studies (0493, 9488).
Our university courses including post graduate research and awards is on the path to accreditation, which taken 5-10 years for nascent universities.
A waqf is a charitable endowment, often for education. Universities like Oxford or Harvard make billions each year in profit from their investments. This model of higher education originates from the Islamic Golden Age, and we are bringing it back. Instead of depending on fees or donations, we invest all donations and use the proceeds of those investments to pay for operating expenses. This ensure every donation is a sadaqat al jariya (charitable gift that keeps on giving)
What is a waqf?
How are donations used?
Donations fund the endowment (waqf), which in turn generates profits for operations and ensure permanence.

The Turath Institute is dedicated to reviving and transmitting traditional Islamic knowledge, rooted in turāth and isnād. Our work is guided by a theocentric worldview, grounded in classical texts, methods, and scholarly lineages. We prioritise authentic Islamic pedagogy and aim to produce scholars formed through rigorous study and spiritual discipline. By remaining anchored in tradition, we offer a meaningful alternative to prevailing secular paradigms in education and leadership, while engaging our context with clarity, purpose, and integrity.
